I know many people are wondering if the iPhone will support free web-based voice over IP (VoIP) calling using iChat, Google Talk, or other SIP enabled IMs over the Wi-Fi connection.
According to Steve Jobs, a number of third party software developers are actively working on internet calling applications for the iPhone. Moreover, AT&T will allow free VoIP calling over the Wi-Fi connection (June 29th Wall Street Journal, printed edition, p.B4).
I strongly suspect that Google is one of these iPhone partners. Especially if the acquisition of Grand Central is confirmed. I had listed Grand Central among a short list of start-ups developing innovative phone applications aligned with social media.
